 Preparing To Write

The very first thing to do when we start writing is to determine what we want to write about and the audience (people it is to be directed to). It is like one who sets on a journey. He has a destination. He has a plan. He has a target. A writer must have a target and a plan for getting there. Here we will try a very basic plan for doing a writing project that will achieve its end.

Choose a Topic

Choosing a topic will help narrow down the scope of what we want to write about. It makes writing more manageable. The writer will be more focused. The area of coverage will be smaller, especially if you are writing on a subject that doesn't require so much academic input. So, for the sake of this article we choose to write about gender issues. That is, the place of men and women in our society.

Choosing a Title

This brings to another crucial aspect. The topic is too broad to write about. We can create a working title. We call it a working title because it can be changed later as the story develops. So, for our write-up here let us choose the title The place of the Woman in the Home.

Brainstorming

During our discussion in the class, we practiced Brainstorming. brainstorming means the time we allow ourselves to think out loud whatever topics can be discussed in a piece of writing. This is done without any plans at all! Just write down things as you think. No set patterns. Every contribution is taken and written down without considering the merits or importance. Write them down as they occur to you.

The place of the Woman in the Home (working title)

  • She's the mother of the children

  • She prepares food for the family

  • she cares for the children and the husband

  • She makes sure the family is fed every day

  • She buys groceries

  • She manages the family budget

  • She is in charge of the social aspect of family life

  • She clothes the children

  • She cleans the house

  • She prepares children for school

  • She protects the young from harm

  • She represents the family in the absence of the husband

The next level is:

Organize/Order Stage

Introduction of the essay

Woman as wife

Woman as a mother

Woman as a home manager

Woman as a caretaker

Woman as a co-provider

Conclusion

This topic is hypothetical, and for the sake of understanding what writing entails. Could any of you handle this topic? Use the points provided or add yours. Knock up a great essay on the role of a woman in the home. You could start by typing up an introduct on this page. remember to write your name before you start.
